On a Hermetic Adventure
The desire for an undefinable elsewhere keeps one slightly estranged, unplanted, subject to inexplicable feelings of exile to which psychology gives names like “loneliness” and “abandonment.” The old are told to get more involved. Yet engagement with other earthlings does not assuage unearthly longings. These are not longings for this world and they are not satisfied by anything we do anywhere with anybody. In fact, these yearnings often come all of a sudden, in the midst of friends and family, in the arms of a lover.
James Hillman – The Force of Character
I am finding some deeper ground
in the quieter moments.
In the sound of a chant echoing
across an unfamiliar, old city.
In between the lines of a dream
I know not to be true.
In a shadow hanging from somewhere
higher up.
Questions I asked too long ago
no longer rise.
Their answers proved too elusive.
Different animals raise their dusty heads now.
They point to a different sky,
Alarming in its beauty,
Unrivalled in its settling calm.
